Although having a vending route on the side is great
for some extra income, there is a negative aspect to it as well:
theft or vandalism on your machines.
The following
tips can help make your machine more secure and resistant to
theft and vandalism:
First, buying an all metal machine is safer than a plastic
machine. Metal machines may be slightly more expensive but
will be more secure than a plastic machine. Make sure you
check that the machine is all metal too—that includes cash
box, base and everything (except for the globe). Beware of
some machines that state it’s metal (as they may have some
plastic parts)—look for ones that say “all metal”.
Another way to lessen vandalism and such on your machine is
to keep it in a location that’s likely to be safe. Busy,
well-lit areas will tend to have fewer reports on its
machines. It’s also a good idea to talk to the people who
work in the business (if it’s a business location, etc.) if
that area is prone to theft or vandalism or of any
occurrences that have taken place at or near the location.
Finding inexpensive ways to deter thefts from entering your
machine will also work well. For example, purchasing small
alarms to attach to the machine (somewhere inside like on
the cash box) can scare thieves away. These small alarms
usually work by vibration so whenever the machines are moved
or hit, an alarm will go off. Another trick you can play on
thieves is to buy small LED and place them on the machine to
make it look like there’s an alarm system on the vending
machine (i.e. car alarms). You can also bolt your machine to
a counter or floor to make it harder for thieves to move
your machines.
Finally, the last tip we give is to have the people who work
in the business know that you’re the owner of the vending
machine. If you’re the only one who services the machine or
if you come around routinely to check up on your machine,
let them know so. That way, if they see anyone else moving
the machine or unhooking the machine and it’s not you who’s
doing it, they’ll know to notify you. Taking small measures
to make sure your machine is safe will usually ensure its
safety.
